Jordan Creek Community,

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! I’m excited to begin another great year with our amazing students and families. Together — teachers, parents, staff, and administration — we create the foundation for each child’s success.

Jordan Creek Elementary is proud to serve over 550 students from preschool through sixth grade. Our mission — “We will lead with compassion, learn with purpose, and make a difference!” — drives us to focus on academic excellence and social-emotional development to empower our students.  We believe each student is an important member of our community, and our staff is committed to nurturing both their hearts and minds.

This is my fifth year as principal at Jordan Creek and 23nd year in education. I hold degrees from The University of Iowa and Drake University, with experience teaching second and fifth grades and serving as an instructional coach, curriculum facilitator, assistant principal, and adjunct instructor.  My husband and I are proud WDMCS parents to Charlotte (ninth grade) and Robert (Valley Class of 2025).

Thank you for the privilege of partnering in your child’s journey. Please reach out with questions or ideas — we are better together!

Go Tigers!
Annie Orsini, Principal

Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)

At Jordan Creek Elementary, we use something called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to make our school a safe and positive place. PBIS helps us teach and encourage good behavior by using common language and clear expectations.

We have morning meetings to teach everyone about PBIS and the social and emotional skills that make our learning community positive. We talk about how to behave in different areas of the school, like in class, during lunch and recess, and when it's time to leave. We sum up our expectations with the JC3:

  1. Be respectful.
  2. Be responsible.
  3. Be safe.

Let's work together to make Jordan Creek a great place to learn and grow!

Jordan Creek History

Let's learn about Jordan Creek Elementary School's history! It was dedicated on Sept. 13, 1992, and for the first year, it was called Phenix-Jordan Creek Elementary School. What made it special is that students from almost every school in the district came to study here. Many of them were from Westridge, which covered the Jordan Creek area until our new school opened.

In the 1992-93 school year, students and families from Phenix Elementary School joined Jordan Creek while their school was being remodeled. The name Phenix-Jordan Creek Elementary School recognized both school neighborhoods.

Jordan Creek was the first part of a plan for two schools (including Valley Southwoods) with nearby municipal buildings like the West Des Moines Public Library and City Hall. They all served a growing neighborhood, and the school's design, with red and brown brick and blue roof accents, matched the city/school campus.

The classrooms, arranged like pinwheels, form "families" around a central open media center. It's a cool place with an interesting history!
